IS GOD RECRUITING YOU???

I think most Christians believe our country was founded and remains successful based on Gods divine intervention. In the days before our country came together as a nation, God choose George Washington to lead and save our country in the battle with British. George clearly felt and understood God’s calling on his life. In one of his letters to his brother he explains how he feels he was chosen and protected by divine providence.

"By the all-powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability and expectation; for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me, yet escaped unhurt, although death was levelling my companions on every side."

In many ways Washington was an unlikely candidate to be chosen by God to lead the nation. He did not have any formal education and he worked as a surveyor in his early years. Yet God choose him to be the Commanding General of the Continental Army and eventually the 1st President of the United States.

How about you? Is God recruiting you to take a leadership role in HIS Kingdom? Is he calling you (much like George Washington) to step out of your comfort zone and make a real difference for your fellowman?

Here’s the thing! Sometimes God calls us and we respond by basically saying ‘Who Me’? We have trouble comprehending that God could really use us for his Kingdom. However, no worries if you are feeling just a little bit unqualified; just know that you are in good company.
For example, how about Moses? You know, the one that led the Israelites out of Egypt. When God told Moses to go to Pharaoh and say, ‘Let my people go’, Moses basically told God ‘No Way’ and that HE had picked the wrong guy. He told God he was unqualified because he stuttered. However, God knew Moses could cut the mustard and get the job done and sure enough God was right. Likewise for you! He knows you can cut the mustard and get the job done for his Kingdom. And as a bonus HE will be with you every step of the way. In fact, the Bible says that the Lord will ‘fight for you.’
You might also be thinking, ‘Gee whiz God, do you really expect me to save our country like George Washington or be like Moses? The simple answer is that there are lots of things you can do for HIS Kingdom that don’t necessarily include saving the world. You can serve the Lord on lots of levels. Remember what Mother Teresa said: “If you can’t feed 100, then feed just one.” Could you buy or make one meal for a homeless person? Could you put one quarter in a parking meter to save someone from getting a ticket? Could you help one person fix a flat tire? Could you visit your elderly neighbors to make sure they are okay? Could you pray for a perfect stranger? The list of things you could do goes on and on.  Don’t worry if you can’t do big things like curing cancer or fixing global warming. There are plenty of other things you can do!

Is God recruiting you for HIS Kingdom? Absolutely! Remember God found Gideon in a hole. He found Joseph in a prison. He found Daniel in the Lions Den. So the next time you feel unqualified to answer God’s recruitment call, just remember:

HE TENDS TO RECRUIT FROM THE PIT, NOT THE PEDESTAL!
