Lon Ricker is the Director of Development at the SoupMobile. His job is to find the money that the SoupMan needs to fund the mission of the SoupMobile. From time to time Lon will be posting information on this page that gives special thanks and recognition to some of the partners of the SoupMobile. As an example, this picture of Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert presenting a check from The Dallas Foundation to SoupMobile at our 2010 Celebrate Jesus Christmas event, in which we take 500 homeless men and women right off the streets of Dallas and put them up at the downtown Dallas Hyatt Regency Hotel for Christmas. This grant was for seed funding of a new group home in SoupMobile Village.

Embrey Family Foundation

Recently the SoupMobile was blessed by a $10,000 grant from the Embrey Family Foundation. These monies will be used to help fund SoupMobile Village. The Village is a series of group homes located in Dallas, Texas. Each group home is specifically designed to take a homeless man or woman right off the streets, put a roof over their heads, clean them up, help get them a job, and return them as working productive members of the community. It's a 'Hand UP', not a 'Hand out.' In two short years the Village has grown from one group home in 2009 to five group homes at the end of 2011.
Our special thanks to the Embrey Family Foundation for partnering with the SoupMobile in our effort to help provide housing for the homeless in the Dallas area.

Chef Thomas Wins 'Texans With Character' Award

SoupMobile's Chef Thomas wins CBS Channel 11 Texans with Character Award. Recently this award was given to Thomas and he was featured on Channel 11 right here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

His story is nothing short of amazing. When the SoupMobile found Thomas in the spring of 2010 he was homeless and living in an abandoned home.

All he needed and wanted was a second chance. Through the grace of God he found that second chance at the SoupMobile. He now leads a team that serves more than 200,000 hot, hearty and healthy meals to the homeless in Dallas each year. Chef Thomas is proof positive that with God's grace and love you can turn your life around and make a real difference in this world.
